District
Services Newsletter, May 2008
Pittsburgh District Library
Center
From the Desk of Mary Frances
Cooper
WELCOME to the first issue of
the Pittsburgh District Library Center, District Services E-Newsletter. We
intend to send the e-newsletter out monthly as a way to share opportunities
and information regarding district library services. Of course, important
and/or time sensitive information will be sent out directly as needed, but
you can still look forward to this regular communication on our common
interests and concerns. The e-newsletter will replace the District Services
Monthly Report.
I have
been enjoying my first few months on the job and am getting to know
Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. I am very pleased to have had the opportunity
to meet many of you already and to visit some of the district libraries. I
look forward to future meetings and to working with you all to help ensure
quality library service within our district. In the meantime, if you have
any questions, concerns or suggestions regarding district library services
please feel free to call or send along an email.

Continuing
Education Opportunity
A free audio conference offered
through the Urban libraries Council will be held on Wednesday, June 4th
from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. in the Director’s Office Conference room at Carnegie
Library of Pittsburgh, Main. The discussion topic
“Scenario Planning: Learning to Think in the Future Tense” will be led by
Marlyn Walton, Advance Development Group Manager, at Herman Miller, Inc.
along with a panel of public library directors who will discuss the
powerful Scenario Planning tools that can help develop your library’s
future vision and focus your library’s strategy and decision making. Is
your library ready and flexible enough to react to major shifts in social,
technological, environmental, economic and political forces?-one of the
many questions that will be addressed by this panel.
Pre-register by either emailing didianop@carnegielibrary.org or calling Phyllis DiDiano at 412.665.2332. The program
is open to all local library staff and library trustees providing a 1.5
hour continuing education opportunity.
