Two years ago, Jim Ruck made the switch from volunteer to full-time staff member of the Jubilee Kitchen, a soup kitchen located in the Uptown section of Pittsburgh. Through the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's Foundation Center, he learned how to obtain grants that helped Jubilee Kitchen expand outreach efforts and services, which now include shelter, medical and job programs for the homeless. The Foundation Center provides access to the most current information about grants and fundraising, as well as other aspects of nonprofit organization and management. Periodic seminars address topics such as Computer Resources for Fundraising and Basic Proposal Writing. The Center works in cooperation with Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania.
