(Pittsburgh - Thursday, December 18, 2003) Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh has selected Pittsburgh-based Crazy Mocha Coffee Company, purveyors of delicious coffees, desserts and beverages, to operate a café style coffee bar at its Main Library in Oakland. The new agreement is another sign that the amenities provided for in the redesign of Main are centered on the customer's experience.

Library director Herb Elish says, "Our goal is to create a place where customers can savor the library and its services. Libraries are excellent places for the exchange of ideas and information and this is an exciting convenience for the Main Library visitor."

The Crazy Mocha Cafe will be located within the popular library planned for the first floor of the Main Library in Oakland at 4400 Forbes Avenue. It will open in July 2004, concurrent with the completion of the first floor renovations. For customer convenience, the coffee bar's hours of operations will closely mirror the hours of the Main Library.

Crazy Mocha owner Ken Zeff intends to offer brewed coffee, espresso drinks, fruit juices, wrap sandwiches and pastries. Crazy Mocha currently operates three Pittsburgh coffeehouses - Oakland, Shadyside and Bloomfield - and this is its first coffee bar. "We're thrilled that the Library chose a local coffeehouse to be a part of its plans," said Zeff, a Pittsburgh native. "Crazy Mocha has built its reputation by offering specialty espresso drinks and delicious desserts in a friendly and comfortable atmosphere. That's what Library visitors can expect from our new coffee bar."

In addition, customers may purchase quality used books, gift items from the Library's Remember Pittsburgh collection and logo merchandise at the Crazy Mocha Café.

CLP is also in the process of reorganizing its Main Library collections in Oakland. The Library is open during the renovations. The architectural firm of Edge Studios has designed inviting, new spaces for visitors to access popular materials and computers on the building's first floor.

System-wide capital improvements are estimated at $40 million. A $15 million bond issue was approved by the Allegheny County Regional Asset District (ARAD) in January 2002. Additional private and public sources are being developed to fund the completion of the Capital Improvement Program.
