Program Statement

Introduction

The main functions of the new Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Downtown are:

To serve customers seeking general reading material, information and our readers advisory services, there will be a wide selection of circulating materials and a basic ready reference collection. Staff will provide general ready reference services via these collections and via electronic information. Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh-Downtown will continue our Best Sellers collection, a general "commuter" collection of popular print, audio and video materials, and fiction and non-fiction collections. There will be a basic collection of children's materials. We will continue to have public access computers and a selection of popular magazines and newspapers.

Our business services will provide up-to-date printed materials, both circulating and reference, as well as an enhanced set of business databases. Our business librarians will provide assistance and service to in-person, phone, e-mail and fax customers using the business collections. Areas of emphasis will be small business, job search, and investment . There will be regularly scheduled public business programs. Also housed at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh -Downtown will be the Foundation Center, where users can research grant writing and fund raising.

First Floor (General Services):

The first floor of our new facility will be geared towards the popular library materials and services such as fiction & non-fiction collections, public access computers, and library card registration and circulation services.

Lower Level (Business):

Our Lower Level will be focused on our outstanding business services, which we have been providing since 1937.
