(Pittsburgh, PA --- Tuesday, March 16, 2004) Do you have difficulty reading due to a visual impairment? Does a friend or relative have difficulty turning the pages of a book? Is a reading disability preventing you from enjoying a good book?

Pittsburgh's Carnegie Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH) can help and now the Library is coming to your hometown. The Library's new outreach effort will bring news of LBPH's collection of over 50,000 books and magazines to all Western Pennsylvanians with physically-based reading problems.

Approximately 10,000 people currently use LBPH services; however, a majority of customers live in or near Pittsburgh.

Starting this month the Mobile LBPH Van will travel to communities along the I-79 corridor from Pittsburgh to Erie on a "First Stop Tour." The goal of the Mobile LBPH "First Stop Tour" is to introduce more people to the Library's specialized services for persons with visual disabilities and those who qualify for LBPH services and programs.

This inaugural road trip is the first of many outreach visits to Western Pennsylvanians that the Mobile LBPH Team will make throughout the Library's 37-county service area. Grant funding for the Mobile LBPH comes from the Office of Commonwealth Libraries in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The Mobile LBPH is a colorful van emblazoned with the message "Pennsylvania! Widen your world with FREE talking books…and more!" Mobile LBPH is outfitted with cassette books and players, large print books and magazines, described videos and state-of-the-art reading equipment. Library staff will be on hand to demonstrate use of the equipment, explain easy ways to receive tapes and books by mail, and accept applications.

To bring reading back into your life, or to the life of someone you care about, visit the Mobile LBPH Team at any of these "First Stop Tour" locations during the week of March 21, 2004:
