Banned Books Week

Observed since 1982, this annual event celebrates the First Amendment
and reminds Americans not to take this precious democratic freedom
for granted. Show your support by checking out a book that is on the
Most Challenged Book List or by attending one of our special Banned
Books Week events.

Teen Banned Books Event

Sunday, September 24 | 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Teens read from banned or challenged books.



ACLU Event- Banned Books Program

Monday, September 25 | 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm
Carnegie Library Lecture Hall

Join the Greater Pittsburgh Chapter of the ACLU, WYEP 91.3 FM and the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, in celebrating the First Amendment and unite in the fight against censorship! Local celebrities and personalities will read from their favorite banned or challenged books.



Barnes & Noble Banned Books Program

Thursday, September 28 & Friday, September 29
All Barnes & Noble stores in Allegheny County

Barnes & Noble has teamed up with the Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA) for a fundraiser to support all of the libraries in Allegheny County. Pick up a voucher at the main library in Oakland or at your closest branch and go to any Barnes & Noble store in Allegheny County on September 28 and 29. When you make your purchase, present the voucher at the check out, and Barnes & Noble will donate a percentage of the proceeds to Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.
