Fiction, Film and Fun: Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Thursday, April 18, 2013
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Join CCAC's Jeanne Bergad to discuss Between a Rock and a Hard Place, by Aaron Ralston. Ralston, a Carnegie Mellon University graduate, former Intel employee, and avid outdoorsman, wrote this 2004 memoir about surviving a climbing accident. While he was climbing Blue John Canyon in Wayne County, Utah, a suspended boulder came loose and fell on Ralston, trapping his right hand. After over five days of rationing his remaining water and food, Ralston amputated his own arm to free himself. Danny Boyle adapted and directed the story for film in 2010 as 127 Hours. The film starred James Franco as Ralston and it was nominated for a total of 6 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and a Best Actor nomination for Franco.
