Books on CD

When you're too hot and tired to read (or maybe the car trip is taking longer than you thought it would), why not while away some time with an audiobook? Listening to a book read aloud allows the whole family to enjoy a story together. There's even a website that features stories for kids (and books for grownups too) read aloud online. So give a listen to some of the selections below and hear what you've been missing.

Project Mulberry Park, Linda Sue
Project Mulberry
This innovative book features conversations between the author and main character as well as an engaging story about a young Korean-American girl who finds that a simple school assignment leads her to think about a wide variety of topics in new ways.
Diary of a Fairy Godmother Codell, Esme Raji
Diary of a Fairy Godmother
What happens when you admit that you're a witch without a talent for witchcraft and decide to pursue your dream of becoming a fairy godmother instead?
Mr. Chickee's Funny Money Curtis, Christopher Paul
Mr. Chickee's Funny Money
Part fantasy, part mystery and entirely entertaining, this latest effort from a popular author showcases his sense of humor and light touch.
The Spiderwick Chronicles DiTerlizzi, Tony
The Spiderwick Chronicles, Books 1-5
The first five books in this popular series are available in one package, ensuring hours of entertainment for fantasy lovers of all ages.
Vacation Horvath, Polly
Like all the best family car trips, the one Harry takes with his aunts in this off-beat tale offers insight along with the entertainment.
Whales on Stilts Anderson, M.T.
Whales on Stilts
Wild and wacky adventures, a tongue-in-cheek tone and echoes of old-fashioned sci-fi flicks make this series starter a must-read-that is, a must-listen-for families that enjoy off-beat humor.
Flush Hiaasen, Carl
A boy and his sister follow the lead of their idealistic father as they fight against environmental destruction in the Florida Keys-but since this is Hiaasen, the simple plot summary doesn't begin to do justice to this complex and hilarious tale.
