About New & Featured
In September 2004, the First Floor of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - Main reopened
following more than a year of renovations. The new library is focused
on you, our customer. Our systems, spaces, and staff are customer-centered.
Whether you visit us in person or virtually, we hope you'll find it
easy to locate resources and uncover the treasures of this library.
Our expert staff is dedicated to helping you find a good book to read and suggesting
authors or titles that match your interests. We'll also provide new
opportunities to talk about books with others. We're ready to serve
you in person, on the phone, or via email.
New and Featured collections, including best sellers and current, popular fiction and non-fiction, are prominently displayed on the First Floor of the Main Library. Among our featured fiction collections we have sections for African American, World Fiction, GLBT, and Short Stories. Some other special interest areas include biographies, GLBT non-fiction, travel, cookbooks, foreign language fiction and non-fiction, large print books, and more than 300 magazines.
The Teen area, with its comfortable furniture, Internet ready computers, and accessible meeting room, is a great place to hang out, meet friends, or do research. There are regular programs for teens like filmmaking classes, zine workshops, and a wide variety of other events; just ask one of the staff in the Teen area for more information. Don't worry, there are also plenty of fiction and nonfiction books, graphic novels, magazines, music CDs, Xbox games, zines, and board games. The knowledgeable staff will help teens find something good to read, or whatever else they need.
You'll find a wide variety of programs available on the First Floor - New & Featured area, from live jazz concerts on Friday evenings on our outdoor deck to book discussion groups and author visits.
