The following is a list of Frequently Asked Questions that teachers may
have concerning school visits to the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh
- Q: How do I register for a tour or class visit to CLP - Main?
A: You may fill out our online Tour Registration Form in order to sign up, or you may call (412) 622-3121 to register by phone. If your students are in 6th Grade or below, contact the Children's Department at (412) 622-3122.
- Q: How can my class obtain library cards in advance?
A: You will need to fax the following information via school
letterhead to (412) 622-5530 at least TEN DAYS prior to your visit:
Advance library cards will be available to pick up at the Library's Customer Services Desk on the day of your visit.

- Q: What if my school district is not located in Allegheny County?
A: Students with library cards from outside Allegheny County and non - county Residents can receive a Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh library
card free of charge if their home library is a participant in the ACCESS Pennsylvania program. For questions regarding ACCESS participation or library card eligiblity, call (412) 622-3118.
- Q: How many items can be checked out at one time?
A: Look over our Borrowing Policies for information on limits, fees, and renewals.
- Q: If my group checks out materials at CLP - Main, can we return
items at our local library?
A: Yes. The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is a member of the
eiNetwork, a consortium of
over sixty public libraries throughout Allegheny County. Materials
checked out from one location within the Network may be returned to

Libraries. The eiNetwork also allows for materials to be requested
and picked up at different locations through the county-wide Library
- Q: Can my group access the Internet during our visit to CLP - Main?
A: Yes, the library features over 100 computers that are dedicated to Internet access. However, it is necessary to have a valid Allegheny County library card in order to log on to our computers. This is one reason why pre-registering your group for library cards is so important.
- Q: What kind of resources does CLP - Main have?
A: CLP - Main holds over two million volumes of books alone, along with thousands of magazines, journals, audiovisual materials, photographs, and slides. In addition, our website contains links to many Research Databases that can be used in the library and remotely.

A:The business hours for CLP - Main are as follows:
Monday - Thursday: 10:00 - 8:00
Friday & Saturday: 10:00 - 5:30
Sunday: 1:00 - 5:00

- Q: Is there any place for my group to eat lunch during our visit to CLP - Main?
A: The Crazy Mocha Coffee Company operates a coffee bar on
the first floor of CLP - Main that serves panini sandwiches, deserts,
and other treats. Additionally, the Carnegie
Museum does have a Brown Bag Lunch Room and snack bar available
for group use. For more information on the Museum's Brown Bag Lunch
Room, call (412) 622-3289. The Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh
features many restaurants that are within walking distance of the
main location of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.
